We have been pointing out this interesting trend for a while. (See here.) In short, the economic downturn has states scrambling for revenue and hustling to try to help businesses. As part of this effort, aspects of the three-tier alcoholic beverage distribution system are being altered.
The December 22, 2011 copy of the Akron Beacon Journal reports on Ohio’s recent change: “The law allows production breweries to open tasting rooms and sell their beer by the glass without buying a second, costly permit.” Read more at: http://www.ohio.com/news/local-news/ohio-breweries-laud-new-state-bill-1.251618 . So, instead of having to sell the beer to a distributor, who then sells it to a bar, which then sells it to you the thirsty drinker, now one can simply go to a brewery and buy glasses of beer there. How fantastically rational!
