In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Club, the company has released a 30 year old blended whisky. Wow — when is the last time we saw a Canadian whisky over 12 years? Our memories fail us; it has been that long.
Well, this rare whisky is quite interesting. No doubt, deep-pocketed whisky lovers will want to give it a whirl. (It is $150-$225 a bottle.) The best way to enjoy it is neat, and in very small quantities. Pour two ounces and then make it last for eight to ten sips. Though just 80 proof, this whisky tastes much larger. All sorts of flavors appear — rye, oak, eucalyptus, apricot, vanilla, burnt orange peel…. It reminds one of a hybrid between fine Canadian whisky and port. Intriguing. This whisky will not last long, so those who want it should order a bottle ASAP. (Rating ****1/2)
