This, dear readers, is a party drink. Whiskey snobs probably will not cotton to it. It is too sweet, too pungent.
But, those who enjoy white spirits (vodka, gin, white rum) might find it awfully appealing. Call it a gateway spirit to full blown Bourbon whiskey. Youngin’s might enjoy knocking this back as shots, but we advise against taking it straight. It comes off as syrupy— just too much.
But, mixed with cola and ice it tastes like Cherry Coke. And if you splash RED STAG on ice and let the ice cool and dilute it, well, then it becomes WAY TO EASY to sip. And at 80 proof, well, that can lead to mischief.
RED STAG is a fun variation on a familiar theme; we only wonder how soon other distillers decide to play follow the leader. (Rating ***1/2)
