11/2009 BREWERY OMMEGANG HENNEPIN SAISON ALE, THREE PHILOSOPHERS ALE, AND CHOCOLATE INDULGENCE ALE
Ah, bless the folks in Cooperstown, New York. No, we are not talking about the keepers of the National Baseball Hall of Fame; we are referring to the folks at BREWERY OMMEGANG.

We came across a OMMEGANG Three Pack at Costco the other day. For about $18 we got three 25.4 ounce bottles—HENNEPIN, THREE PHILOSOPHERS, and CHOCOLATE INDULGENCE, along with a nice glass.

We tasted the HENNEPIN for the first time in eons and we are glad we did. It had a nice fluffy head, and showed coriander and ginger notes. We wished we had Thai food, but somehow got by quaffing the beer all on its lonesome. Very tasty. (Rating ****1/4)

The THREE PHILOSOPHERS ALE was wild—a quadrupel with a touch of Kriek (cherry ale). Malty, complex, and fruity. Go easy on this one, though, it is 98% ABV. (Rating ****1/2)

When we first sipped CHOCOLATE INDULGENCE, we though, ugh, what’s wrong with this? In truth, there was nothing wrong with the beer; the fault was with us. We had served it fresh from the fridge. Duh—the label notes that CHOCOLATE INDULGENCE should be served at 50 degrees. Once it warmed up, oh my, this beer was delicious. The cocoa note was present, but it was very modest. (We’ve had a choco-brew or two that are just TOO much.) This OMMEGANG beer was very nicely executed. (Rating ****1/4)
