Gallup published an interesting poll on alcohol consumption in America on July 29th. Among its interesting findings are:
- America is in one of its drinking upswings. In 1990, 56% of Americans said they drank (and 44 said they were total abstainers). In 2010, 67% enjoy a drink, while 33% don’t touch the stuff;
- In terms of preference, beer maintains the lead. Of drinkers, 41% call beer their preferred tipple, 32% wine, and 21% liquor;
- More men prefer beer than women; and more women prefer wine than men; and
- The wealthy (81%), the highly educated (74%), and non-churchgoers (75%) are WAY more likely to identify as drinkers than the poor (46%), the less educated (58%), and the weekly church-goer (54%).
