Goosecross Cellars Napa Valley Chardonnay 2007

by Jacob

One of my favorite small producers in Napa Valley is Goosecross Cellars. Located in the middle of the valley in Yountville, Goosecross produces many outstanding wines and has a world class wine education program. I have visited the winery and vineyard twice, and each time I have been impressed with the wines and the knowledge and friendliness of the tasting room staff.

While Goosecross makes two outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons, they also make a standout Chardonnay. The 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay is an easy drinking wine that is not a stereotypical over-oaked Chardonnay many Napa Valley wineries now produce.

On first inspection, the Chardonnay has a light straw color that suggests a balanced and subtle wine. On the nose, that is confirmed with a light apple scents. On the palate, green (Granny Smith) apples notes are present along with a hint of oak and pineapple. Overall, while I have enjoyed previous versions of the Goosecross Chardonnay (2001 specifically), I found this to be better balanced and more easily paired with carrot cake and strawberry cheesecake. The winery sells it for $34 on their website. (***1/2)

  1. Jacob,
Many thanks for such a nice review on Goosecross and our Chardonnay. I started selling our Chardonnay consumer-direct right from our barrel cellar back in 1994, when it was the only wine we produced at the winery, that was 17 years ago. Chardonnay has been our specialty for 27 years now. I’m so happy to know you think it is outstanding. We appreciate you getting the word out there about Goosecross!

  2. Colleen,

Thank you for your feedback. If there is ever other wine you would like us to consider reviewing, we are always open to highlighting smaller producers who make outstanding wine.

    Jacob
