Why the lengthy delay between beer reviews? Simple- folks seldom ship us beers to sample. We get lots of wine and spirits, but very little beer. Why? Our guess is… Well, who cares what our guess is. A beer dearth is a beer dearth.
Thus, it was with great delight that we received these four Belgian ales from SB Northwest. These beers were produced by ANDELOT PROEFBROUWERIJ of Lochristi, Belgium. They all get a thumbs up.
EUPHORIQUE: A delicious, frothy, golden ale with gobs of yeast and floral notes. A real delight. (Rating ****3/4)
DIABOLIQUE: Another golden brew, less light and yeasty than EUPHOROIQUE, and more robust. Whereas EUPHORIQUE was dry, DIABOLIQUE is a bit sweet. Quite good. (Rating ****)
MYSTIQUE: A buckeye-brown colored ale that is considerably sweeter and richer than DIABOLIQUE. Very tasty but a hint syrupy in our collective humble opinion. Still, hand us a glass of this and we’ll thank you heartily. (Rating ***1/2)
ANEGLIQUE: If EUPHORIQUE was the peak of the light-side of the spectrum, ANGELIQUE is the peak of the dark side. Yowza- what a fine beer, rich, but not overly malty. This burgundy ale was marvelous with potent cheeses like herbed chevre. We can see having this with beef stew. Yum. (Rating ****1/2)
